Julie Karen, MD

Dr. Julie Karen is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in Mohs micrographic surgery, laser surgery, skin cancer, cosmetic dermatology, and leg vein treatments. After graduating summa cum laude from Princeton University, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and played varsity soccer.

Dr. Karen earned her medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where she ranked first in her class and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. She received prestigious honors, including the Clarence C. Coryell Prize, John Metcalf Polk Prize, and the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Award.

At The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at New York University Medical Center, she served as Chief Resident, receiving the Morris Leider Award for Excellence in Dermatology. Dr. Karen furthered her training through a Procedural Dermatology Fellowship at NYU and Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

Certified by the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Karen is a Fellow of several esteemed organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Phlebology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery. As a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at New York University Langone Medical Center, she teaches surgery to dermatology residents.

Dr. Karen's exceptional reputation is reflected in her recognition as a Castle Connolly "Top Doctor" and inclusion in New York Magazine's "Best Doctors." She has also been featured in "New York Super Doctors" and has received the Surgical Attending of the Year Award from NYU's dermatology residents. Her contributions to dermatology literature include publications in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and Archives of Dermatology.

She co-authored the Handbook of Dermatologic Surgery, a widely utilized training resource for dermatology residents, alongside her sister Dr. Elizabeth Hale and renowned expert Dr. Perry Robins. Dr. Karen has made television appearances and is frequently quoted in print and online publications.
