Gary Monheit, MD
Dr. Gary Monheit is a highly accomplished dermatologist with extensive expertise in Mohs surgery and reconstructive techniques. He obtained his MD from the University of Colorado and completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. Monheit further pursued a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, focusing on Mohs surgery.
Dr. Monheit is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He is a fellow of prestigious organizations including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, the American Association of Liposuction Surgery, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, where he formerly served as President.
In his role as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology and the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Monheit actively contributes to academia and imparts his knowledge to residents and medical students. He is widely recognized as an esteemed author, lecturer, and researcher.
Dr. Monheit's notable achievements include his fellowship training with Dr. Frederic Mohs, the pioneer of the Mohs surgical procedure. Since establishing his practice in Birmingham, Alabama in 1977, Dr. Monheit has been dedicated to providing superior patient care. As the first Mohs surgeon in Alabama, he specializes in reconstruction, utilizing the most advanced techniques to achieve functional and cosmetically pleasing results, particularly in delicate facial and body areas.
With his wealth of experience, Dr. Monheit has mentored numerous Mohs surgeons who now practice across the country. He is committed to teaching and lecturing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, national and international dermatology societies, and the Mohs College.
